A Proofreader’s Guide to the Rory Gilmore Book Challenge
WELCOME FRIENDS, TO THE GILMORE GIRLS BLOG!
Why Gilmore Girls? Um, why not? LOL just kidding. I’m a huge fan of the show!
I never really watched Gilmore Girls when it was airing on television, besides an episode here or there, but my partner and I started watching it together during the pandemic and I became a bit of a super fan. One of the things I noticed about the show was how many pop culture references they make to other TV shows, movies, songs, and BOOKS. Being a book lover, I found myself a little curious exactly how many times they referenced a book. Luckily, many other people had already done this work for me. I found pins on Pinterest, groups on Facebook, and Podcasts talking about these pop culture references and so much more. Even better, I found several groups doing reading challenges, going through the books from the show together and discussing them. FUN! I knew I wanted to participate so I compiled a list and started at the beginning.
By the way, the answer to how many books are referenced is somewhere between 339 and 349.
In this blog I will be going through the books in alphabetical order. There’s no particular timeline for you to follow so don’t stress. Feel free to follow along at your own pace!
Since this will already take 25 years or so to get through, LOL, I won’t do every single book. For example, I’ll most likely skip over any political literature since they are already very dated (this was an early 2000’s show) and I have no interest in getting into political commentary during my “fun” time; I’ll skip over any series for the obvious reason that it would just take way too long; I’ll probably skip any DIY books since, again, this is about leisure time and I won’t be “trying new things”. You get the idea.
I might also skip slightly ahead if there’s a book coming up that would coincide with a holiday or event. Like, if it’s the month of October and we have a spooky story coming up, we might skip ahead to it. Let’s keep it fun!
I will also try my best to give you the episode in which the book was mentioned (or seen).
At the bottom of each review, I will give my rating in cups of Luke’s coffee. The amount of coffee does not represent how much I liked or disliked the book but rather, how many cups of coffee it takes to get through.
Happy Reading, Crew!
